A French lawyer admitted to the Paris and New York Bars, Matthieu Boissavy practices criminal defense as a lawyer, and dispute resolution as a lawyer, mediator or arbitrator, both amicably and adjudicatorially. He takes a multi-disciplinary approach to conflict resolution, taking into account the law, argumentation and behavioral sciences. He applies the principles of creative thinking to find effective solutions to complex legal problems and disputes.
His practice focuses on criminal and disciplinary law, art and media laws, compliance and human rights. He assists and defends the rights and interests of individuals, corporations, governments and public authorities in crisis situations and disputes. Whether acting as plaintiff or defendant, alongside civil parties, defendants or defendants in trials involving general criminal law, business criminal law, art criminal law, press offenses (defamation, insults, invasion of privacy, etc.), infringement proceedings, tort or contractual liability or art market law. He is also developing his expertise on the subject of respect for human rights and the environment in the context of corporate duty of care. He is involved in the institutions representing the legal profession. Elected by his peers in 2017 as a member of the Conseil de l'Ordre du Barreau de Paris until 2019 and then, in 2020, as a member of the Conseil national des barreaux Français for the 2021-2023 term, he is notably in charge of criminal law and civil liberties issues as vice-chairman of the CNB's Commission Libertés et droits de l'homme. In the course of his work for the CNB, he has developed expertise in the areas of lawyers' freedom of expression, attorney-client privilege in the context of searches and seizures, defense ethics and professional conduct, and relations between lawyers and judges. He has taken part in the work of the Joint Consultative Council on Judicial and Legal Ethics.
He is the author of several articles on legal issues, the legal profession and the justice system. He is a contributing author to three books: Influencer la démocratie, démocratiser l'influence (2004); Reconstruire la justice (2006); Manifeste pour la justice (2011).
